Starting at Lilley, this walk takes in two unusual nature reserves situated in the northern part of the Chilterns in Bedfordshire. Barton Hills Nature Reserve comprises of woodland, a chalk spring and meandering paths along the slopes of Barton Hills. Whilst Warden and Galley Hills Nature Reserve rewards you with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The terrain is mostly flat with some undulations but does include hiking along narrow paths on hill slopes in the two Nature Reserves if the weather permits. So sturdy grippy shoes and hiking poles are advisable, particularly as there are some muddy bits, which can be slippery especially after rain. An interesting walk with much to reward you, with a mixture of lowland chalk grassland, wildflowers, streams, beech woodland, sweeping views of Bedfordshire, and an interesting and unusual nature reserve.
Bring a picnic lunch, and a mat to sit on.
