This semi-urban walk explores three of Basingstoke's parks, the picturesque village of Old Basing and Basingstoke Common, following the Basing Trail - one of three Heritage trails in the area. There will be a lunch-stop in Old Basing and a pub-stop at Barton's Mill.
The walk is mostly flat with good paths, so is a good walk to try if you're new to organised walking and/or are unsure of your current level of fitness. Please bring a packed lunch and drink, as usual.
Meet outside the main entrance (station office) of Basingstoke railway station for a 10:15 start. By train from Reading, take the 09:52 service, which stops at Basingstoke at 10:09. Parking costs £5 for the day at the station car parks, £4 for the day at Vyne Meadow car park close behind the station (Vyne Road, RG21 5NA). There is a free car park at Eastrop Park (Eastrop Way, RG21 4QE) which is about a 20 minute walk to the station.
