This walk is an opportunity to visit the Combe Valley and the tiny village of Combe. We commence the walk south easterly along the Wayfarers Walk, close to the highest point on the ridge, Walbury Hill, before heading westwards on a footpath, and by-way, before descending to Combe. We then ascend out of the valley to Combe Hill and then turn south past Hogs Hole and into the Test Valley in Hampshire. Following the Test Valley we walk in a northwesterly direction back into West Berkshire before moving into Wiltshire on our ascent to Buttermere and the mandatory stop at "St James the Great" in Buttermere.
After Buttemere we rejoin the Wayfarers Way westerly extension and head east before reaching "Gallows Down" (Combe Gibbet) where we will stop for a photo opportunity. From there it is a short walk to our starting point.
Magnificent views across the countryside is assured on a clear day. Plenty of ups and downs to encounter and the odd stile as well.
Meet for a 10:20 start at the free car park just west of Walbury Hill and south of Inkpen Common.
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
