A variation on last New Year's walk through the woods of Ashridge via the Bridgewater Monument and Princes Riding for a lunch stop at Little Gaddesden. Return along the Golden Valley past Ashridge House, Berkhamsted Common and the Alpine Meadow to Berkhamsted. There are short sections of bad mud - walking poles recommended.
Bring a picnic. Brief pub stop. Optional car share from Barnet: Victor's Way Car Park, EN5 5TR, leaving 09:15 (22 miles).
Berkhamsted Station, meet in the parking area under the viaduct by the Castle entrance.
