Overview

An interesting walk around the Wansbeck valley that passes the deserted medieval village of South Middleton.

Our route is via Bolam Church and Low Angerton before turning west along the river Wansbeck towards Middleton. Passing South Middleton and Half Moon Plantation the route rises to Salters Nick and the impressive Shaftoe Crags before returning to Bolam Lake. A fairly level walk across fields, tracks and some minor roads.
