This is a fine walk at the north end of the Pentland Hills. Heading south from Bonaly the walk climbs through pine trees and out onto the open hills. It passes Bonaly Reservoir and through Phantom's Cleugh. Just before Glencorse Reservoir it heads back through Maiden's Cleugh and out onto open countryside, returning to Bonaly via Clubbiedean Reservoir and Torduff Reservoir.
All along the way there are fantastic views of the Pentlands, Edinburgh, the Forth and across to Fife.
The walk starts with a steady moderate climb, after which the going is relatively easy. Most of the paths are well maintained, but there are parts which get very muddy in wet weather. There is one short section on a metalled road.
There are several easy opening gates, but no stiles. Poles are advised.
At the time of the recce (mid January), the car park had just been renovated, but the new toilets were not yet open.
This is a grade B walk in the Biggar grading scheme
