This walk is BOOKABLE for up to 20 people.
It is through soft countryside with fields and woods, going west from the Dale Abbey area to the lake in Locko Park, where we will have a break for a drink. We then go north east then back past Hollies Farm back towards Dale Abbey. We cross one road, the A 6096, and there are 2 stiles. The land is gently undulating with a gentle uphill walk from the The Lake past Locko Hall. It could be muddy but there are no streams, so the paths will be open even after rain. It should be a pleasant Autumn walk in November.
If you would like to join this walk please contact the Leader using the email link. Numbers limited to 20.
Part of the walk is below a small wooded cliff where there is an area of caves called 'The Hermitage', a scheduled ancient monument where a hermit lived. The woodland is old and was once part or a larger forest. Locko Hall is privately owned but nearby, in the thirteenth century, there used to be a leprosy hospital.
As the walk is 6.25 miles, please bring a packed lunch. There is a pub 'The Carpenters Arms' half a mile from our start, where people may want to book a meal. Booking a table between 1 30 and 2.00 pm is advisable.
