This day trip is full. If you are in the area and would like to join one or both walks, please get in touch with walk leader before the date of trip.
Walk 1: Brean Down (3-4 miles) Grade: Leisurely
Beginning our walk from the National Trust car park, the group shall either take the short steep climb via the accessible path or for those who dare (or have strong knees!), they can climb up the Down via approximately 200 steps. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with views of Weston-Super-Mare and South Wales. A short walk to end of Brean Down, over ancient field systems lead you to a Fort where we shall have drinks stop. At the fort, learn the secrets of how it was used in World War II before heading back to the beach for lunch, and an ice cream!
Walk 2: Brent Knoll Hillfort (3-4 miles) Grade: Leisurely
Starting from the Brent Knoll Inn, we will walk across farmland before taking a short incline to the top of Brent Knoll Iron Age Hillfort at 449ft high. From the hillfort, we shall see wonderful views of the Somerset Levels and learn about the “Isle of Frogs.” After a short stop at the top to catch our breath, we shall head back down to the village for dinner in the local pub.
