Overview

This is a scenic linear walk from Bury to Ramsbottom going via the high ground of Peel Tower and Holcombe Moor.  We start in Bury and follow the Irwell Sculpture Trail as far as Summerseat where we then turn off and climb up the gentle slope to Holcombe village.  From here, the gradient increases to ascend to Peel Tower where we will have great views (weather permitting) before crossing Holcombe Moor passing Pilgrim’s Cross along the way.  We then descend to Irwell Vale village and rejoin the sculpture trail in the opposite direction to Ramsbottom.

At Ramsbottom, we will then catch one of the regular buses for the 20 minute ride back to Bury and refreshments at The Trackside at Bolton Street Station.  Bus fare is £2.

The walk is classed as a moderate walk as the only climb of note is up to Peel Tower.  There are likely to be muddy sections on the route so please wear the appropriate boots or walking shoes.
