There are a number of walks within this park. They have all been reccied & as we are walking in the autumn the Calderglen to Langlands Trail is the ‘best’ for the foliage. The paths are well established, but stoney, with roots and the occasional hint of subsidence, There are some boggy patches making it slippery underfoot. Overtrousers or gaiters might be a good idea and for those (like me) inclined to tripping, best bring walking poles.
It is a 6.5 mile walk, it’s well signposted and mainly linear as we are walking along the top of ( rather than in or down) Calder Glen. We will also cross Langlands Moss which is an interesting bog site. There is a special boardwalk through this part and a number of information boards giving the history of the site, the wildlife in the site and the plant life! The circuit part of this walk is round a meadow reached after we cross the ‘bog’.
There are a few benches dotted around the trail & they may coincide with our 1st refreshment stop, but our lunch stop is likely to be on a log / tree stump in the meadow unless we agree on the day to walk back to the cafe where there are inside & outside seating areas & toilets.
