This is a short and easy walk (4-4.5 miles) . It is mainly in the vicinity of Troon seafront and has been planned to blow away the cobwebs and set you up for 2025.
We will park and start at South Beach Esplanade Car Park ( adjacent to Royal Troon Golf Course/ Club House).
We will walk along the esplanade ( sea is on left hand side) taking in the scenery ( dunes, grassy verges, sandy beach then rocks and rock pools).
As we approach the ‘cliff’ (its not really a cliff, more of a hillock) we have a choice to either walk up & over it or walk around its base ( 700 metres) on what is a relatively narrow path with the sea /Firth of Clyde on our left hand side.
If we choose to do the base of cliff walk it is known to be slippery at bits, have some loose rocks underfoot, even sea weed if the waves are high & it is stormy. So extreme care needed if this path chosen. Alternatively we walk over the top, starting with a short but steep climb onto grass / stones. There are benches at the top to sit on and survey the spectacular views (hopefully Arran and the Arran ferry).
We leave the cliff and then walk round to harbour to check out the wildlife ( birds and the occasional grey seal). We then set off on the return leg. Returning to the car park again via the cliff and with an optional visit to Main Street for a coffee. We will end, depending on tides, with a walk back on the sand or we will stay on the esplanade.
Apart from the cliff part this is a flat walk with lots of seating available. There is no need for gaiters or sticks. There are a number of local points of interest along the route with informative notice boards and resident wild life.
