Overview

Hello Everyone

Short and lumpy best describes our walk this Sunday starting from the favourite local venue of Castle Ring nestled on the southern fringes of Cannock Chase at Cannock Wood. We've "crafted" this one into a mud mitigation maneuver by finding good firm paths & tracks for the most part although there is some of the gloopy stuff in places. Winter innit?

From Castle Ring we head northwest to Hazelslade then north via Beaudesert, down Rainbow Valley returning up Parsons Slade and then home through Beaudesert Old Park. Three prolonged but gradual climbs, plus a couple of short sharp ramps thrown in for free. No stiles.

Fancy a few hours out with us? Great, you're welcome as always! If this is your very first time with the group we'd appreciate it if you could let us know you'll be coming along a day or two beforehand so that we can look out for you. We also always introduce newcomers before we get moving ('cos we're good like that).

Registration: 09.30 Walk start: 09.45  Walk leader: Barry (07811 141484).

⚠️Our own members should note that there isn't a Hednesford rendezvous for this local walk. Please drive direct to the start.

No loo's at the start or during the walk. Plenty of foliage cover though.

Post walk refreshments in the cosy Park Gate Inn within yards of the start.

See you there on Sunday morning folks. Fingers crossed for a nice bright day!

Directions:

Our Castle Ring starting point at Cannock Wood is best approached off the A5190 Lichfield to Cannock road at Sankey's Corner, Chase Terrace, then via the 1.75 mile dead straight Rugeley Road running due north from Sankey's Corner up Hayfield Hill into Cannock Wood. Cannock Wood is signposted from the island opposite Aldi on the A5190 at Chase Terrace.

Once in Cannock Wood village proceed straight across at the slightly staggered crossroads (⚠️with care as this is a blind summit from the left) into Bradwell Lane where continue for 200 yards to turn left into Park Gate Road and follow for 400 yards, passing the Park Gate Inn, to the next crossroads 50 yards later where straight across (⚠️with care again) and into the car park. Castle Ring is well signed locally. The car park is free.

Satnav is your friend if you're approaching from the north and Rugeley. Again, there are various signs for Castle Ring as you get near. Photos above of the final approaches to aid you.
