This is a linear railway walk of approximately 12 miles. Let's hope Charing Cross won't be busy!! The terrain is varied, starting with farmland which is likely to be wet and muddy in parts, and some woodland paths. There is a long but steady climb on a quiet lane up to Gore Hill. From there it is a hill top route with hopefully good views over Dorset downland. Then we walk down, on a gorgeous grassy slope into Sydling St Nicholas, a pretty village, before going up, across the A37 and finally down to the station at Maiden Newton.
Picnic, no dogs.
This is a railway walk, also on the Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks programme.
The train leaves Maiden Newton Station at 10.00 am. There is no ticket facility at the station so tickets must be purchased in advance. The train arrives at Chetnole (a request stop) at 10.08 and the walk will start from there.
