This Chiltern Society linear walk links the towns of Wendover and Chesham along an ancient trade route. Once walking you are barely aware of the nearby HS2 construction. It is mainly arable land, clay soil and likely to be muddy.
Our lunch stop, after about an hour and a half, is at the Lee, a picturesque village with strong links to the Liberty family. It has a village green where there are benches. Toilets, drinks and a cafe serving coffee and cakes at the Cock and Rabbit pub, which has featured in Midsomer Murders.
There are numerous red kites, I've seen roe deer both times I've done this walk, and even a rural fox.
Train: 10.27 from Marylebone to Wendover - Oyster 60+ or Freedom Passes are valid to Amersham so just buy a single from Amersham to Wendover. Return on the Metropolitan line from Chesham, trains every half hour.
Lunch: Bring picnic: pub for loos and drinks only.
Good idea to bring (and wear) gaiters, and boot covers if entering the pub at the Lee.
