We are the Isle of Wight Ramblers. We arrange walks, monitor paths and help our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
UPDATE:
OK so I have recce'd a route on 12/9/24. It is a circular route of approx 5.5 miles from the Old Smithy carpark at Godshill, leaving at 10.30am on Sunday 15/9/24
We will cross the road from the carpark up behind the Griffin pub , past Sainham Farm , joining the Worsley Trail and then up onto the Downs near the radio mast. Coming back down via Appuldurcombe House (lunch/snack stop there, on this return section) and Freemantle Gate into Godshill.
Please be aware that the outward section of this walk is uphill (but don't worry - this is me, it won't be fast !), and is a bit muddy in just a couple of parts. There is one (short) section of which is steep uphill + muddy at the same time - pole(s) may be a good idea. The second half of the walk is more straightforward /downhill and latterly comprises a section of the Stenbury Trail. It is a lovely route, with some great views if the weather is good, and we will do it at a leisurely rate to enjoy these
Almost all of the route comprises footpaths and tracks, some of them surfaced in the second half, there is minimal trafficked road-walking (where there is, please walk single file and take care). At the time of recce, there was only 1 stile that did not have a gate alternative.
There are (20p) toilets at the start/end of the walk in Godshill, but none en route. There are cafe / pub options at the end of the walk for anyone who wishes
By car
Park at Godshill carpark (parking is free / toilets 20p).

By bus:
Regular No 2 and No 3 buses from both Newport and Ryde directions.
Additional Notes:
Depending on the weather, consider suitable clothing, footwear, walking stick, sun cream, drinks, and food. Watch out for ticks and remove ASAP. If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walks leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you inform the leader or back marker.
There are some sections of road walking, so please walk in single file and take good care.
