This 8.5 mile circular walk is graded 'moderate', passing along footpaths, bridleways and some short sections of country lanes through the undulating countryside around Cleobury. Starting at the car park (toilet facilities available), we will walk through the village towards Pinkham and on to Mawley Woods. After passing Mawley Hall we will head towards the Lower Forge, a 16th century iron works where the current landowner has been conducting landscaping works in recent years. We will break for coffee and a snack near here, then continue along footpaths towards Bayton. We will have a lunch break in the churchyard at Bayton (toilet inside the church if it is open) - enjoying views towards the Clee Hills, and we might see kites circling if we are lucky. After a short lunch break, we will walk along a country lane towards Shakenhurst - a largely Georgian mansion built towards the end of the 18th century. We will then cross fields, and pass through more woods towards the 16th century Reaside Manor, and back towards Cleobury along field paths. Some of the fields may have livestock in them, and will be muddy if it rains in the days before the walk. If anyone wishes to stay on after the walk, there a number of pubs and cafes in Cleobury.
The walk is through the beautiful countryside on the Shropshire/Worcestershire border. The starting point is a half-hour drive from north Worcester. There will be a short coffee break and a short lunch break, so bring snacks/packed lunch and drinks. The walk is graded 'moderate'. We start at 10.00 sharp, so please arrive in good time. The walk should end at around 2.30. Most of the field crossings are through kissing gates, but there are several stiles.
