Overview

High Newton, inland to Kelsoe Hill (great views), Newton Pond, Coastal path south, then inland to Dunstan Steads, south to Dunstan Square, then east back to coast through The Heughs (Whin Sill) and north on coastal path past Dunstanburgh Castle before joining the beach back to Low Newton and round Newton Point, past Football Hole beach to Newton Links House, before returning the short distance back along a quiet road to High Newton.


Field, beach and coast path, with a short stretch of roadside walking towards the end of the walk. All fairly flat, with only gentle inclines and should be dry underfoot. two minor streams to cross on the beach.


This is a joint walk with the Hexham Group.

About 9.5 miles, but with a cutoff point, for those who want a shorter walk, at Low Newton, where it is a short distance back to the start, making the walk 7.5 miles


Coffee stop en-route on Kelsoe Hill and then a picnic lunch stop (probably on the beach (paddling optional!).

Car Park on the western approach to High Newton by the Sea. Directions to start point: A1 northwards past Alnwick and take the B1340 turnoff eastwards through Denwick and Rennington to Christon Bank, where you turn right at the T junction. At the next T junction, turn left onto the B1339 and then IMMEDIATELY right to High Newton by the Sea. Pass Newton Hall and a short way further on as you approach the village the car park is on the right. TAKE CARE, as the entrance is not easy to see and is on a sharp bend.
