Overview

There is a limit of 15 people for this walk and booking is essential.  Please book by email after 19 February.

The cafe is independently run by the staff.  It has indoor seating and a toilet.  At Cutty Sark DLR the escalators are out of order and there are 121 steps to street level, but there is a lift, opposite the first door at the front of a southbound train.  Alternatively, you can walk from Greenwich DLR/Mainline (10 minutes - see below) or catch a 188 bus to near Cutty Sark DLR from either Canada Water or North Greenwich Tube stations.

Meet for coffee by 10.45 at the latest.  At 11.00 we will start the optional walk.  We pass the Cutty Sark and go through the old college grounds, passing the National Maritime Museum (toilets) to reach Greenwich Park.  It's then possible to return to the DLR, for a 1 mile walk.  We continue through the park and up the hill, towards Blackheath via the slightly less steep route.

At Blackheath Gate (1½ miles) it's possible to catch 386 and 53 buses back to Greenwich, and there are more free toilets after the gardens.  We continue around the park, down the hill and stop for lunch.   After passing more toilets we leave the park.  This gate is near bus stops for the 129, 177, 188 and 386 routes, linking to several stations (2¾ miles).  We are also close to Maze Hill Rail Station.

We pass a shortcut back to the DLR and join the Thames Path, continuing towards the Dome.  After 4 miles we go close to a 108 bus stop (for North Greenwich, Stratford and DLR stations).  We continue to North Greenwich Tube and bus stations, where there are toilets and cafes.

Greenwich DLR and National Rail stations are about a 10 minute walk from Cutty Sark DLR.  On leaving either station, Greenwich High Road is opposite.  Turn left and walk along the main road, past the tall, brick clock tower on the right and then past St Alfege Church on the left, which was designed by Hawksmoor and also has a clock.  You are now on Greenwich Church Street.  Continue straight on and you should soon see the Cutty Sark's masts.  Waterstones is before you reach it, next to the pedestrian arcade leading to Cutty Sark DLR.
