There is a limit of 15 people for this walk and booking is essential. Please book after 16 April, using the email link.
Boulangerie Jade is very close to Woolwich Elizabeth Line Station, at 9 Major Draper Street, Royal Arsenal, SE18 6GD. It serves a range of pastries, cakes and meals, and has toilets. After coffee, at 11.00, we begin the optional walk, initially along the Thames. After about 1 mile we reach Broadwater and turn inland, to reach a stop for buses to Woolwich. We continue towards Plumstead Station, which has busy roads around it and more buses (1¾ miles). We then join the Ridgeway footpath and head towards Thamesmead, with further bus stops along the way. The Ridgeway runs on an embankment covering the Joseph Bazaljette Southern Outfall Sewer and is covered with trees and shrubs.
At Southmere we pass the lake, to reach a thin strip of parkland that leads towards Abey Wood Elizabeth Line and National Rail Station. There are toilets in the station and a possibility of tea or ice cream nearby.
Bring a picnic if you plan to walk beyond the Broadwater bus stop.
The route is along good paths, but toilets are sparse after the cafe. However, there are plenty of bushes and a McDonalds at Plumstead, if desperate.
