A short stretch of road leads us to the river Lugg from where we climb steeply (could be slippery) out of the valley and into woods that lead to the hill fort on Croft Ambrey. From there we pass through Lyngham Vallet wood and onto Bircher Common, which we cross and then circle back to Fishpool Valley by Croft Castle. A track out of the valley leads to woods and meadows, before reversing our initial climb back to the road and the cars. On a good day there are extensive views from Croft Ambrey and Bircher Common. There are only a handful of stiles and a couple of other climbs, but after so much wet weather there are bound to be some muddy paths.
