Walking in South Shropshire
The South Shropshire Hills is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, interlaced with beautiful streams, rivers and valleys, and we are lucky enough to live and walk in it. Although walking in the area can be challenging; hilly, often remote and can include a number of gates and stiles, the rewards are more often than not quite spectacular.
We generally walk on Sundays, but we also offer occasional walks on other days, and try to include at least one trip away each year. The walks vary in length from 6 to 10 miles, nearly always moderate in grade and pace with plenty of help for newcomers, and we stop regularly for refreshment, so picnics and plenty of fluids are a necessity.
Our friendly walking community
South Shropshire Ramblers is a very friendly Group, offering a warm welcome to newcomers. We usually get between 10 and 20 people on our walks, so it is easy to talk to everybody, and when possible, we encourage a visit to a local teashop or pub when we take our boots off.
Feel free to have a chat with the leader in advance if you are unsure of your ability; as this always helps to introduce yourself to other walkers.
