Join Glasgow Young Walkers on the Dun Rig Horseshoe. As per Walkhighlands, it’s a fantastic hill walk (with peat bogs in places) from Peebles, taking in the four peaks surrounding Glensax with extensive views in all directions.
Getting there
By car: The starting point of the walk is 1 hour 20 mins away by car from the city centre of Glasgow. If you can offer a lift, please add this to the comments with the number of places you have. Non drivers will be expected to contribute towards fuel costs.
Public transport:
There is a train at 6:45 am from Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley. Bus nr. X62 to Galashiels leaves from South Bridge at 08:14 am and arrives at the Eastgate Post Office in Peebles at 09:22 am. The start of the walk is roughly a mile away from the bus stop. There are regular buses back to Edinburgh from Peebles.
Please note that number of attendees is limited to 12 people for this walk.
This is a strenuous walk with a considerable amount of ascent thus previous hillwalking experience and a good fitness are essential. Please wear suitable walking boots and bring your full waterproofs. Please also make sure that you have food and water on you. As we will most probably walk the last part in the dark, please make sure that you have a headtorch with you.
Please note that this walk will only go ahead in good weather conditions. In case of poor weather conditions, there will be an alternative walk around Peebles ( [https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/borders/cademuir-forts.shtml](https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/borders/cademuir-forts.shtml) or [https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/borders/john-buchan-way.shtml](https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/borders/john-buchan-way.shtml) are the options depending on the forecast)
The plan is to go a pub/café in Peebles/Edinburgh after the walk.
