A short walk near Callander visiting a Roman Fort, a Pictish Fort and a glacial erratic as well as two hill tops.

An opportunity to visit a Roman Fort, a Pictish Fort and a glacial erratic. We follow the Rob Roy Way to Callander before walking through Coilhallan Wood to Loch Venachar. We then cross the Eas Gobhain and climb to the Pictish fort before passing Samson’s Stone on Bochastle Hill. Finally, a short descent takes us back to the car park.

Local Grade: C+

Terrain: Mostly hard surfaced paths. One short section of pathless hillside.

Bochastle forestry car park. Turn left off A84 onto A 821 at Kilmahog (signed for Aberfoyle). Pass “The Lade” pub on the left and after 0.5 km turn right into car park. Distance from Helensburgh: 38 miles. Time from Helensburgh: 1 hour 5 minutes. Suggested fuel contribution: £8.00. Please note we will leave promptly at 10:30.
