A circular walk from the pond at Craiglockhart, across to Hermitage of Braid, up to the Braid Hills to Liberton Brae and back to Craiglockhart via the Hermitage of Braid and Morningside. Most of the route is off road, with occasional sections on quieter roads. Our walk starts at the pond, off Lockharton Gardens (off Colinton Road), then skirts the Craighouse grounds. We then do some road walking to the Hermitage of Braid, exiting to the Braid Hills, where we have a panoramic view over Edinburgh, weather permitting. We then follow a path towards Liberton, make our way back through the Hermitage of Braid on a different path, and via the beautiful grounds of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
Travellers from Currie/Balerno to the start of the walk can take the 44 bus and get off at the Water of Leith Centre, where it is possible to walk up the steps to the canal and do one section of canal and walk up to Colinton Road. The starting point is accessible from the city centre on the 10 bus, and by the 45 from Holy Corner.
Limited parking is available in Lockharton Gardens.
