A attractive and leisurely circular route through the Hermitage of Braid, to Liberton Tower, and return.
This walk starts at the entrance to The Hermitage of Braid, at The Hermitage Lodge House, on Braid Road. Following the main path along the burn, downstream, we take a track, which has a slight incline, to emerge onto open hillside above the Hermitage; continuing along various grassy paths until we reach the Howe Dean Path, where we continue up and on to Braid Hills Drive. Crossing over road, we walk along the path below the golf course, until we reach the Driving Range, where there is a possible coffee stop. Crossing back over the road we continue east to Liberton Tower, then walk down various farm tracks till we reach the Montifiore School, taking farm tracks (to miss out the main road) we come out on to Blackford Glen Road. Here we return along the Braid Burn and through the Hermitage, stopping for lunch at Hermiston House, where there is seating. We then continue back to the start.
Our route follows good paths and tracks. If wet these may be muddy, therefore boots are recommended.
