Meet outside Ely station at 10:00, for a 10:15 start of a 7-mile walk, with a visit to the Ely Eel Festival at the end.
For those travelling by public transport, there are regular trains from Cambridge. The train leaving Cambridge at 9:33 arrives at 9:53 in Ely, with intermediate stops in Cambridge North and Waterbeach. A Super Off Peak Day Return is £4.30.
If travel ling by car, please leave plenty of time to find a space. While there are several free car parks in Ely, they will fill up early when there is an event. The Angel Drove and Dock car parks are behind Tesco, and are £3 per day. The Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose car park all have time limits enforced by cameras.
There are toilets at Ely station, at Tesco and at the end of the walk.
The walk takes us up along the river towards Queen Adelaide. We continue north before turning west then back south towards Ely through the fields, then through Ely Country Park to end at Jubilee Gardens.
We will have lunch at the Eel Festival. There are plenty of choices, including eels, but also many other options including vegetarian. You are also very welcome to bring your own lunch.
Walking boots and walking trousers are recommended. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing. Please follow the countryside code including disposing of rubbish in a suitable bin or taking it home with you.
