Join our welcoming and friendly Group for some pleasant, energetic but easy-paced hike and chat in the picturesque countryside above Churchstoke (Yr Ystog). On our journey we get acquainted with our three hills whilst enjoying the breathtaking and spectacular panoramas they afford over the Shropshire Hills, the Welsh Marches and the Cambrian Mountain ranges on the horizon. As well as witnessing these stunning views we pass Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle (a bronze age burial site) and a National Nature Reserve.
Todleth Hill (287m), the most modest of our trio, has been home to mines and agriculture since ancient times. Roundton Hill (370m) has been declared an official National Nature Reserve due to its unusual volcanic geology, with its exposed rocks and rare flora. Corndon Hill (513m), the daddy of the group, has historically been a focal point for the whole area and has been the focus of human activity since prehistoric times with a number of Bronze Age burial cairns near its summit.
Whilst we will not ascend to any of the actual summits (especially Corndon Hill where our path rises to 382m) the walk has three notable strenuous hilly sections. The total ascent is 560m / 1839 ft and there is an elevation diagram included (image 2 above). That said we will avail ourselves of lots of opportunity for an easy pace and the catching up of breath.
The majority of the route is by well established pathway and there are a few small sections along quiet roads.
We are a very gregarious lot and welcome and encourage walkers from outside our Group (if so please contact me by the email link). As always we will have an 'elevenses' break as well as a lunch stop so bring your packed lunches (there are no shopping facilities en route).
Toilet facilities are available in Churchstoke (Yr Ystog) outside the Co-op store at the start / end point
The three hills are all situated in Wales - Gobeithio y gwnewch fwynhau eich ymweliad.
