West Mendip Walkers moderate 10.5 mile circular walk from Bratton Camp (Westbury White Horse). After leaving the Bratton Camp area the walk will follow the edge of the Imber Range for three miles passing one of the checkpoints into the range itself. The route will then head northeast before descending from Salisbury Plain towards Erlestoke, then through the villages of Coulston, Edington and Bratton. One principal ascent of 120m after leaving Bratton and before returning to the Camp.
The White Horse is visible from afar and is a famous local landscape. Local records suggest that the horse was originally cut in the late 1600s, probably to commemorate the supposed Battle of Ethandun, thought to have taken place at Bratton Camp in AD 878.
