This is a linear walk starting from the Tattenham Crescent (free) car park at Tattenham Corner and finishing at the Clock Tower in Epsom where we can catch buses back to the car park or Reigate/Redhill etc. For those wishing to travel from Reigate/Redhill by bus (460), the timetable for the main stops is below. For those driving to the start there is a choice of two buses back up to the car park (£3 cash/contactless card/bus pass).
We start by enjoying the fabulous views (weather permitting!) and then, with stops for an interesting potpourri of historical titbits, head mostly (but not all) downhill to end up in the centre of Epsom. Expect mention of suffragettes, Shergar, The Derby, Lord Rosebery (and his eccentric daughter Sybil), Samuel Pepys, Henry Wicker and Mrs Beeton. We will have a break by a duck pond for coffee/snacks. Once in Epsom there are lots of places to have coffee/lunch/picnic etc after the walk. If you’re tempted by the shops at the end then the bus times are displayed on the bus stop opposite the Clock Tower – more details on the day.
A mixture of paved surfaces, grass and footpaths with a fair amount of pavement walking. There will be some mud so advise walking shoes/boots rather than trainers.
No steep ascents, steep descents or stiles / a handful of paved steps / 2-2.5 mph (our usual pace) / registered assistance dogs only please.
Please text Anne on 07950 926132 (with your name!) if driving to the start so that I can message you if there are problems with the bus on the day.
