The walk starts in Bridport. We follow footpaths and very quiet back roads down to Eype, from where we follow the South West Coast Path (SWCP) in a westerly direction over Thorncombe Beacon and Golden Cap, then via Charmouth to Lyme Regis. Golden cap is the highest point on the South Coast. Expect fantastic sea and costal views along the way. The plan is to take lunch on top of Golden Cap to enjoy the views, weather permitting.
It doesn’t look like the tides work out for the beach walk from Charmouth to Lyme, so it will have to be the inland route, up the hill and across the golf course
The plan is to catch the 15:37 X53 bus from Lyme Regis back to Bridport Bus Station, which is scheduled to arrive in Bridport at 16:17. The bus often runs late, so don’t rely on the scheduled times. The cars are then a 10 minute walk away. The bus will be £2, and takes cash, cards, bus passes etc.
It’s possible (but unlikely) we may make it to Lyme Regis for the 14:39 X51 bus which is scheduled to arrive in Bridport at 15:17. For anyone who needs to get back earlier we should be in time to catch this bus from outside the Lyme Regis golf club. (If we are running well behind schedule, this bus can also be caught from Charmouth).
This walk is graded as moderate, although probably at the upper end of moderate due to some reasonably steep hills. It’s nothing that our regular walkers should have a problem with. We will take extra rest stops as needed.
