Overview

A linear walk following the River Esk Valley from Castleton to Egton Bridge, through the village of Danby up to Danby Beacon, onwards to Lealholm, through Arnecliff Wood to finish at Egton Bridge. The route is moderately hilly and approximately 11 miles long.

As this is a linear walk, we will park at Egton Bridge, take the train to Castleton and then walk back to Egton Bridge. So we will meet at Egton Bridge railway station in time to take the 0905 train from Egton Bridge to Castleton. It arrives at Castleton at 0927, so we will start the walk from Castleton railway station at 0930. We will stop for a morning break just outside Danby and then have lunch at Lealholm village. There will also be a stop in the afternoon in Arnecliff Wood. Please bring enough water and food for the day.
