We start the walk from Garsdale Station and proceed in an easterly direction on a good path passing beneath Dandry Mire Viaduct until we reach the Moorcock Inn where we ascend a steepish climb (150 m / 500 ft of ascent) beside cobbles plantation, at the top of the climb we head in an North Westerly direction along the High Way / Lady Anne's Way. Wild Boar Fell dominates the area with excellent views of the valley. We pass the stone bridge at Hell Gill home of the infant River Eden. On route we pass one of the Eden Benchmarks. If the weather is favorable we stop here for a break. We then start to descend to the B6259. We are now in a more rural setting with stiles aplenty on passing Shoregill which has a small stretch of boggy terrain. We pass Pendragon Castle and if we have time we can visit the site and maybe a short break. Carrying on in a northerly direction we pass the remains of Lammerside Castle. Further on we pass Wharton Hall and then proceed to Halfpenny House were there is a tarmac path to Kirkby Stephen Station. This is a long walk of about 13 miles with a steepish climb at the beginning however the paths are good. We meet at Garsdale Station on arrival of the 0824 train from Carlisle or the 0748 train from Leeds. Return from Kirkby Stephen Station to Carlisle at 1652 or to Leeds at 1727. A new timetable starts in May so times may change slightly but they haven't changed recently.
