The red route is a steady ascent and descent of around 3.2km on a good track with wooden steps on many of the uphill sections.  It passes through birchwood and a grove of very large sitka spruce trees. There are  lovely views over the old Caledonian Forest on the south side of the River Lyon and fine views towards the Tarmachan Ridge and Ben Lawers from the viewpoint.  The blue route on the return is 2.7km and largely level passing a magnificent larch planted in 1764 and several wildlife ponds that have been created.  The Glenlyon Church at Innerwick is worth a short diversion with its old graveyard and beautiful stained glass window of St Andrew.
