Overview

6.5 miles, 840 feet ascent (10.4 km, 256 m. ascent) (Outdooractive).

Easy to moderate. 10 a.m. start. Goyt Valley walk. This is the walk which I planned for March 2 this year, but which I had to cancel due to a snowstorm and icy access roads into the valley. Meet at lower end of Street Car Park, SK01357564 northwest corner of Errwood Reservoir. Nearest post code SK17 6GJ (for guidance only) -  Errwood Sailing Club, across the dam from Street CP.  Route: Hoo Moor track, Hillbridge and Park Wood Nature Reserve, Taxal. Coffee in St James' Church yard in Taxal. Toilet available in the grounds (bring change as donation for use of this private facility). We return via Shallcross Wood, along the River Goyt, then waterside path on west side of Fernilee Reservoir. A few stiles, could be muddy in places. Several steep ascents which we will take at an easy pace. There has been a church on the site of St James’ Church at Taxal since 1286. A memorial slate in the chancel records the name of Roger Jauderell, who fought and died at Agincourt (1415). Some livestock in fields north of Fernilee Reservoir, but they have never been a problem. Please bring coffee and a snack and plenty of water if it’s hot. Well behaved dogs, on leads at all times, are welcome. GPX file with map route to follow. Any queries, phone Gillian 07833142563
