Enjoy a summer outing to the Isle of Wight with Alton Ramblers. After the excitement of the train and ferry crossing we will enjoy a walk out through Ryde and south across the Island to Sandown on Bridleways, footpaths and Roads (short section on busy road). The route crosses Brading Down with magnificent views and enters Sandown through a Nature reserve with the possibility if seeing red squirrel. At Sandown you will have several options. You can return to Ryde via train (£2.75 with railcard) or bus. Or spend time in Sandown, joining us for lunch in the Beach Cafe (if space), or enjoying the other seaside facilities and perhaps paddling in the sea before returning to Ryde. There will be an optional after lunch seafront stroll on to Shanklin (a couple of miles) with return to Ryde by train (£3.05 with railcard) or bus.
Parking at Petersfield Station (£4.40 payable by Ringo App or at the station ticket machine). Purchase an Off Peak return rail ticket to Ryde (£26.20 with railcard). Meet on the platform ready to catch the 8.32 train to Portsmouth Harbour where we will transfer onto the IOW ferry. Bring food and drink. There will be one half way stop on the walk for lunch, or snacks for those planning on having a late lunch in Sandown. Let Louise know in advance if you plan to join us for the day out and also if you would like to join us for late lunch at the Beach Cafe in Sandown so I can update you of any last minute changes to the day.
