A circular walk in the beautiful Wealden countryside starting from The Moor. From the church we head South following the Sussex Border Path across some fine open fields with great views until we reach Bodiam Castle, where there will be an opportunity to explore the grounds of the castle and take on refreshments. Entrance to the castle itself is not permitted unless you have National Trust membership, and unlikely that time will allow. From Bodiam we cross the Kent Sussex Railway line (and if we are lucky we will see a steam train) until reaching Snagshall. From here we head West, eventually reaching the River Rother at Salehurst, the plains hopefully not flooded. At Salehurst we will have a brief pause to look inside the surprisingly large church of St. Marys and take stock before heading North, crossing fields and through the grounds of the magnificent manor house at Great Wigsell, before the final stretch back to Hawkhurst. All in all a magnificent day out.
If you can, please RSVP to this walk via our Meetup site. This will give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending.
Please bring a picnic lunch
Refreshments and Toilets available at Bodiam Castle
Please join us at The Eight Bells pub afterwards, which if warm has fantastic garden to sit in.
