This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
A leisurely walk exploring Heartwood Forest, the largest new native forest in England, planted between 2009 and 2018. The walk will feature a mixture of woodland trails and country lanes, including some paths which may be muddy, and some gentle slopes.
Starting at Heartwood Forest car park (next to the village of Sandridge), we will pass through woodlands including Cutts Green Wood, Pismire Wood, The Magical Wood and Langley Wood. Look out for animal sculptures along the route, which are fascinating and relevant to the local wildlife that make this Heartwood their home.
When we reach Bamville Cricket Club we will take a short refreshment break.
Next, we will visit further patches of woodland: Secret Springs, Clappers Wood, Eight Acre Wood and Thames Wood, before following Piper's Lane towards Wheathampstead Golf Club and the hamlet of Amwell. Here we'll have a pub stop at The Elephant and Castle.
The last part of the tour takes us to Nomansland Common, an area originally used by villagers for livestock grazing and firewood gathering. Our finishing point at Heartwood Forest car park will be on the other side of the common.
Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Please:
- DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
- UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the walk and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.
- DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.
- *TAKE NOTE that if you no-show three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*
- DO car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
- BRING a packed lunch/snacks and drinks, appropriate clothing for the conditions and optionally a basic first aid kit.
