There is a limit of 20 people for this walk and booking is essential. Please book after 14 January, using the email link.
We start by walking along an attractive section of the Grand Union Canal, then climb up into the Chilterns, with undulating terrain, woods and country views. After 4 miles, including two climbs and one descent, we will reach Bovingdon. Lunch is at the Bell Inn and there are several benches in the nearby churchyard for those with picnics. If you want a pub lunch, please email Annette by close on Tuesday 18 February.
We have a 5 mile walk in the afternoon, with one climb and two descents. We finish at Chesham Tube Station, where trains are two an hour. There is a possibility of tea nearby.
Catch the 09.24 train from Euston, arriving in Hemel Hempstead at 09.50. Buy a single to Hemel Hempstead. Use Contactless, Oystercard or Freedom Pass to return from Chesham.
Expect rough paths and maybe mud, so walking boots are essential. We cross three busier roads and have some sections along lanes without pavements. The toilets at both stations are usually open.
It is possible to drop out at lunchtime. Bus 1 leaves the Bovingdon Memorial Hall at 13.41 and arrives at Hemel Hempstead Station at 13.50.
