Overview

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

Part 7 of an epic long-distance trail around Hertfordshire - join us for any of these!

Please note this is a linear walk from Hemel Hempstead station to Kings Langley station. Drivers may wish to park at Kings Langley station, take the train to Hemel Hempstead station for the start of the route then walk back to their cars. However, parking at Hemel is slightly cheaper.

Starting back along the canal towpath, passing locks, a boat yard and various interestingly named narrowboats, till we reach Winkwell, with its swing-bridge and lock. We then head uphill onto Little Hay golf course before continuing to the village of Bovingdon, where we avoid its airfield now often used for filming.

Passing through arable fields and then woodland we arrive at Chipperfield and its Common which contains veteran Spanish sweet chestnut trees, estimated to date back to the 1600s. We'll pause for a drink in one of the village pubs before continuing over gentle rolling hills down to Wayside and Kings Langley and its station.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
