The walk will be led by Nev Dickinson.
The walk will start at the car park at Hethpool OS map OL16 grid ref. NT894281.It takes about an hour from Morpeth to get there and we will start walking at 10.30am.
From the A1 just north of Morpeth take the A697 going through Powburn and skirting the outside of Wooler. About 2 miles after Wooler take the left turning at Akeld (the B6351) towards Kirknewton. Pass Yeavering Bell on your left and go through Kirknewton keeping on the same road. Go over the bridge which crosses the College Burn and onto Westnewton where there is a sign on the left to Hethpool. Take this and keep going for about 2 miles to Hethpool where the road bears to the right past some cottages. About 100 yards after these on the left, just beyond the wood, is the car park which is as far as you can go in a vehicle without a permit from agents of the Hethpool Estate.
It’s a fairly flat walk with a few undulations and these are not steep. Distance 6 miles, mostly through open country; along the road for a while but there is little traffic. It may be muddy in parts but as there is a stretch near the end of the walk descending through woodland which in summer is overgrown, with stones embedded and is the steepest part, a stick and boots are advisable.
No toilets but plenty of cover.
The nearest postcode is NE71 6TW and What3words tripped.bookshop.pushed will take you to the free car park.
