Hetton Lyons Country Park to Seaton Bank Top
If you need a little bit of fresh air and to stretch your legs after all the Christmas celebrations, this one might be for you! It is a moderate circular route, of just under 6.5 miles. From the car park at the southern end of Hetton Lyons Country Park, we set out, passing the Stephenson Lake and then SE, on track towards Orchard Hill and Constitution Hill. When we meet the main road to Murton, we follow this for a short stretch to the outskirts of Murton. From there, we join the Ryhope to Hawthorn Rail Path and head NE, up to Seaton Bank Top. We then head W on a lane towards Sharpley Plantations and along field tracks towards Great Eppleton. From there, it is all downhill, towards the northern entrance to Hetton Lyons Country Park and back to the car park where we started.
Although much of this route is on tracks and lanes, there are some muddy stretches.
It is most unlikely that any cafes in the area will be open, therefore, please remember to bring some refreshments with you: we will find somewhere to stop, to top up on those Christmas goodies yet again! It is likely that we will do this back in the Country Park, towards the end of the walk.
