This walk unfortunately has had to be changed. The path going up near Rowridge is closed and unfortunately the nearest practical walkaround meant another three miles or so. So we will start at Gotten Leaze, which is a small car park on Lynch Lane, between the Jubilee car park and Calbourne. We are still going through Westover Farm and Shalfleet to Newtown, as before. When it gets here you will have an opportunity to explore this largely forgotten corner of the island, before turning south and heading home. The route takes us past the pretty hamlets of Five Houses and Winkle Street, and back to Gotten Leaze.
There is more road walking than before, but this is on roads that don't see many cars and that are a pleasure to walk along. There is however a stretch of around 200 yards which goes along the Yarmouth to Newport road, which could be busy and where you will need to walk in a single file and take good care.
You should bring a picnic lunch.
New walkers welcome. If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise. We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.
