This is 12-mile walk of contrasting halves, which was originally scheduled to take place March 10th, but poor walking conditions aborted that attempt. We follow the Greensand Way, for much of the first half, which differs nicely from the stretch along the valley of the River Beault.
For starters, we stride out from Linton along the Greensand Way, which gives us intermittent views south across the Weald, passing through a ridge of prime fruit growing. Eventually better views can be enjoyed, as we make our way through to Yalding, which is a lovely village of old houses, thatched roofs and cobbled walks.
It is now that the scenery changes, as we turn easterly, to pass through Cheveney and onto Hunton, where our lunch stop will most likely be taken at the lovely 13th century St Mary's church, which is just a brief diversion of the mapped route. We cross the River Beault, before passing through the cross-country horse jumping course at Bon Fleur and onwards through Linton Park.
There is next the deer park within the grounds Boughton Monchelsea Place, then one of the best views across the Weald is to be had from St Peter's church, we then re-join the Greensand for our return to Linton, where the Bull Inn awaits thirsty walkers.
