The morning section of the walk involves a relatively steep ascent from Llanthony Priory via the Beacons Way to offer some stunning views (weather permitting) during a coffee break on Hatterrall Ridge. The descent into Longtown is via well marked moorland and farmland paths with a few stiles. Lunch will be taken at the remains of Longtown Castle and there will be plenty of time to explore the castle and its grounds, which date back to the 11th century and a part even back to Roman times.
The afternoon climb is steep in places but offers excellent views of Black Darren, which is a fine example of an ice-age landslip in the Olchon Valley. Finally we descend to Llanthony via the Offa's Dyke Path.
Additional Notes : Please bring a packed lunch
