A circular walk starting from the historic coastal town of Lymington following the Solent Way through Lymington and Keyhaven Marshes Nature Reserve.
Leaving Lymington walking walking along the sea wall path there are extensive views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, The Needles and Tudor Hurst Castle. Plus opportunities to see the varied and rich wintering birdlife of the saltmarshes and mudflats known as Keyhaven and Pennington marshes.
From Keyhaven we continue to the start of the impressive one mile long shingle bank known as Hurst Spit for views of the open sea and lunch. There is an option for those that wish to shorten their walk to 10.5 miles to have their lunch at Keyhaven as we will retrace our steps from Hurst Spit back to Keyhaven where we can regroup.
Returning to Keyhaven the walk cuts inland behind the nature reserve along footpaths and minor roads before returning to Lymington.
The walk is exposed and can be cold, especially if there is a strong wind, so wrap up warm. However it benefits from having good conditions underfoot and is mostly flat with some gravel footpaths. Care needs to be taken as some of the paths are shared with cyclists. Everyone is welcome. If you would like to join this walk, please notify the walk leader (Gill B 07887947826) or email swrsundaywalks@gmail.com. If you would like to car share, please let the walk leader know when you book and we will hopefully be able to facilitate this. There will be two stops during the day for coffee and lunch (please bring a picnic). Dogs on short leads only.
