Walking in and around South Wiltshire
Based in the cathedral city of Salisbury, the South Wiltshire Group has over three hundred members and has been going for more than fifty years. We offer four walks most weeks in varied countryside, which includes parts of Cranborne Chase, the Wiltshire Downs, iron-age hill forts, chalk stream valleys and ancient woodlands.
Our walking community
We are pleased to say that we have been recognised as exemplary in our footpath maintenance work. We also organise social activities and publish local walks booklets.
Under the guidance of our experienced walk leaders, we offer short walks (4-6 miles) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and most Wednesdays, often ending with a pub lunch, and longer picnic walks (10-12 miles) on Sundays and occasionally during the week.
Our Heavy Gang meets one day a month and builds paths, bridges and gateways. Our Path Clearance Team does lighter work, also meeting once a month. The Group enjoys the social side, organising a New Year lunch, a summer barbecue, quiz evenings and talks.
