We begin in the sleepy village of Lytchett Matravers, dropping off the gentle hills and ultimately on a fairly level route using good paths and occasional roadways. It takes in the multiple rugged heath and pine-heavy woodland areas in Wareham’s hinterland, tracing long stretches of the Wareham Forest Way, as well as Poole Harbour Trail and the Hardy Way, including a hop up to a high point at ancient Woolsbridge Fort, and a vinous surprise near the end of our walk.
Lytchett has two pubs and we are likely to find ourselves at one for refreshments at the finish.
