The initial part of the walk starts at Queen's Head which is a hamlet off the A5, three miles southeast of Oswestry ,and joins the Montgomery Canal which was originally constructed in the 1790s to serve the limestone quarries at Llanymynech. After 2 miles the canal bends sharply right to reach Bridge 78 , at which point the walk passes through the bridlegate and across the filed. The route then heads towards St Winifred's Well at Woolston hamlet and then rejoins the canal , continuing towards Maesbury Marsh. The final part of the walk continues across fields and lanes, along Waen Lane to the imposing Bromwich Park farmhouse, eventually having sight of the imposing facade of Aston Hall. Finally the route passes through Oswestry Golf Club and returns to the Queen's Head.
There are a small number of stiles along the route. The route provides easy walking on towpaths, back lanes and field paths. Some sections may be boggy so walking sticks may be beneficial.
The final recce will adjust the route as required with updates added here. Please check this webpage for any updates.
Walkers are advised to bring food and drinks as there will a coffee and a lunch break over the course of the walk.
