About us
Welcome to the Oswestry Ramblers. We have over 150 members and offer a varied programme of great walks. We usually walk twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. We are a friendly group and like to chat as we walk. There are usually about 10-20 people on our walks. New adult members of all ages are very welcome, you can come as a guest on three walks to try us out.
Some walks are close to Oswestry and others further afield in Shropshire, north and mid Wales, Cheshire and sometimes on the coast. We enjoy exploring villages, woodlands, valleys, and local meres and mosses, as well as the Welsh and Shropshire hills. We also organise social events, group holidays and help maintain and improve nearby footpaths.
Our walks
Some walks are suitable for people new to walking and others for more experienced walkers. Usually, Thursday walks are 4-7 miles easy, leisurely or moderate. Sunday walks can be longer, up to 10 miles, moderate or occasionally strenuous. Please feel free to contact the walk leader with any questions you have about the walk.
Please wear hiking shoes or boots and bring warm waterproof clothing, drink and snack. A packed lunch is needed for longer walks. We usually stop for a drink or picnic.
We have meeting points in Oswestry so we can share cars to the starting points of walks. You may travel straight to the starting point if you prefer. On Thursdays we meet in Morrisons Car Park, Shrewsbury Road, Oswestry (usually 10am) and on Sundays in Gatacre car park, Gatacre Road, Oswestry (usually 9.30am).
In the upcoming walks and events you can find more info on each walk including the meeting and starting points. Booking isn’t needed for most walks. Sorry, only registered assistance dogs can come on our walks. If you have any questions, please do get in touch.
Would you like to help us improve local footpaths?
We have many opportunities for volunteering - sorting out footpath problems, installing gates and stiles, helping with publicity and local campaigns as well as leading and planning walks. We offer training and support. Interested? Get in touch via webmaster@oswestryramblers.org.uk
