We will walk along a stretch of the River Roding, around Wanstead Park with its lakes, around Alexandra Lake on the Wanstead Flats (all part of the southern edge of Epping Forest) with a short diversion into the City of London Cemetery for a toilet stop and our picnic, with the bonus of a surprisingly modest memorial stone to a name we should all know.
A varied (but essentially flat) walk with a mix of footpath, track, grass and pavement walking, so there could be muddy stretches.
We will have our coffee stop by the Wanstead Tea Hut (picnic benches, toilets nearby), but there can be a queue at the weekends so probably best to be self-sufficient.
No stiles, 2 - 2.5 mph (our usual pace).
Registered assistance dogs only please.
Picnic lunch. Finish time depends on trains but we hope to be back in Redhill by 4 pm.
If joining the walk at Manor Park, please let Anne know by text (07950 926132) so that we can update you with any delays on the day.
